Verse: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Devotion: There is a hope that comes along with repentance. A promise, that if God’s people would turn from their ways, no matter how wicked they are, God will hear them, forgive them, and heal them. As I look at our nation during this season it’s easy to write it off as all but lost, but this verse gives us hope for nation’s restoration. It starts with humility. It starts with repentance. It starts with us, the people of God.
Prayer: God, today we humble ourselves. We long to see our nation turn back to your heart. We acknowledge the part we, your church, have played. We acknowledge that we are prone to wander. Today, we turn away from the things of this world, away from our own selfish desires, and we turn towards you. Lord, come and heal our land. Amen.
